David Lempert is an international human rights lawyer, consultant, social scientist, and author who has worked for 40 years in some 35 countries on five continents for the UN system, governments, and international organizations. He founded an NGO, Unseen America Projects, Inc., which promotes democratic, experiential approaches to social science education at universities in the U.S. and abroad, along with projects for cultural and environmental heritage protection and tolerance, and sets of indicators for international development, rights, and protections. He was the first U.S. anthropologist to study urban life in the Soviet Union, in Leningrad/St. Petersburg, in 1989–90, and the second U.S. Fulbright Professor in Vietnam, in 1999.
